Chestnut Lodge strikes gold

Staff at Chestnut Lodge have been celebrating the news that the home has been awarded the Quality Hallmark Award for the Gold Standards Framework (GSF) accreditation.

Manager Graham Oakes said: “This is a significant achievement which highlights the high standards of person-centred care delivered by our team in the final stages of life.

“The GSF Quality Hallmark Award is a nationally respected kite-mark for excellence in care, recognised by leading care sector organisations, including Care England, the National Care Forum and the National Care Association and serves as an information source for the Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection process.

“Receiving the award signifies that we deliver proactive personalised and well-co-ordinated care, and the benefits to residents include reduced unplanned hospital admissions and deaths, enabling more people to live well before end of life and to die in the place and manner of their choosing.

“I could not be prouder of my team, who work incredibly hard every day to deliver outstanding care to our residents, and a particular thank you goes to those responsible for achieving GSF accreditation.”

The Chestnut Lodge GSF team was headed by their clinical lead, Gema Uncles, and comprised joint GSF co-ordinators Jemma Turner (deputy manager), Graham Oakes (manager) and senior HCA Christine Mann; with nurse Jo Gregory acting as clinical educator, admin manager Lorna Hoaereu taking on communications, and Jane Davey, Joe Brewer, Chloe Anderson and Jithin Chacko, whose usual roles include activities, maintenance, senior HCA and chef, as additional GSF co-ordinators.

Paul Teasdale, director of Camelot Care Group of which Chestnut Lodge is part, said: “We warmly congratulate Graham and his team on this achievement.

“We know how much time and dedication is needed for the award of the GSF Quality Hallmark, and we really appreciate how hard they’ve all worked for this.

“Importantly, the award provides valuable reassurance for those families who entrust the team at Chestnut Lodge with the care of their loved ones that consistently excellent care will be provided right up to end of life.”

Martin Green, Chief Executive of Care England, said the GSF programme “…has been shown to be transformational, not only for staff but for relatives and residents.

“GSF helps demystify dying, and encourages everyone to play their part, so staff morale improves and turnover decreases.”
