Cookie lover unite at Avalon

Year one pupils from Bridgwater’s Northgate Primary School discovered they had much in common with their elderly neighbours at Avalon Nursing Home on a visit that involved a joint end-of-term cookie-baking session.

Olive Trowsdale, an activities co-ordinator at Avalon, said: “Everybody loves a cookie, and they had a great time baking together, no matter whether they were five years old or 95.

“There is now a well-established relationship between Avalon and Northgate, and during the year we’ve welcomed lots of them in small groups as our guests, but this was the final visit from them before the summer holidays.

“One of the nicest aspects of their visits is the conversation that takes place between the youngsters and our ladies and gents.

“This time residents were interested to know what their young friends want to be when they grow up, and the children were equally keen to hear what jobs they’d had before they retired, and whether they’d enjoyed them.

“We’re grateful to the teachers and TAs who enable these visits to take place and are already looking forward to seeing them again in September.”
