Summer fair profits will help achieve Butterfly Lodge vision

The vision of staff at Butterfly Lodge to improve accessibility in the home’s garden is a step closer to being realised thanks to an impressive £800 profit from last weekend’s summer fair.

Deputy manager Sarah McCaffrey said: “The money raised is going towards landscaping the lower part of our garden to make it more accessible, which is part of our plan to build a tearoom there with funds kindly donated by a resident’s relative.

“It’s a really exciting project and we’re all so looking forward to things getting underway.

“The success of the summer fair owes a huge amount to our extended Butterfly Lodge family, like sisters Tina Wills, Rose Blake and Michelle Adam, whose dear mum passed away recently.

“They joined us to run the hook a duck, tin can alley and ‘sponge the management’ stalls, and also brought along their famous trifles for the buffet table, as well as some gorgeous cup cakes for the cake stall.

“We raised a lot of money on the ‘sponge the management’ stall, where manager Clare Sinclair and myself took it in turns to stand in the stocks and both got quite a soaking.

“Resident Maureen Williamson loved having her face painted, then she had a go at throwing wet sponges at me – and then wanted a go in the stocks herself!

“We had such a lot going on, with something to appeal to everyone, including live music from The Receding Hairliners, a bouncy castle, a children’s fancy dress competition, face-painting, lawn games, tombola, raffle, sweet shop, hotdogs and a craft stall amongst others.

“It was lovely to see our residents and guests enjoying themselves so much.

“A huge thank-you goes to everyone who helped make the event such a huge success: colleagues, family members and friends of our residents, and to everyone who attended.”
