Places at Butterfly Lodge are highly sought-after by families in Plymouth where it is recognised as being one of the leading specialist dementia nursing homes in the city.
We provide a safe, compassionate home where those living with dementia feel valued, understood and supported, guided by kindness, dignity and teamwork. We care with heart every moment of every day.
Our reputation and the feedback from health professionals and family members reinforce what a good job we do, and our staff turnaround is low, with many staff having worked with us for a long time.
At the ‘Celebrating Excellence in Care Awards’ organised annually by Plymouth City Council, the home has scooped multiple awards including – in 2024 and 2025 alone – Excellence in Dementia Care, Manager and Deputy Manager of the Year, the People’s Choice Award, Culinary Team of the Year and Team of the Year Award.
Butterfly Lodge is also accredited with St Luke’s Six Steps for Quality End of Life, with 2025 marking the fourth consecutive time the home was recognised for the excellent way the charity’s focused Six Steps+ end-of-life care programme is implemented here.
Team members are involved with local research projects to ensure they remain at the forefront of giving best practice, including initiatives with the University of Plymouth.
