OFFICIAL OPENING OF DEER PARK NURSING HOME
North Devon’s newest specialist dementia care home, Deer Park Nursing Home in Holsworthy, had its official opening on Monday 13 October with a ribbon-cutting by the mayor of Holsworthy, Councillor Jon Hutchings.
The ceremony was watched by colleagues from Camelot Care with dozens of local people turning up throughout the day to see what the new home has to offer. We acquired the purpose-built property, previously Deer Park Care Home, in September 2024, and have spent the past 10 months refurbishing it inside and out.
Paul Teasdale, director of Camelot Care, said: “The opening of Deer Park Nursing Home will help alleviate the considerable demand for nursing and residential dementia care which exists in this part of North Devon, filling that gap with really high-quality care.
“Our new staff team is led by a highly experienced manager and deputy, and comprises a group of recruits who were carefully selected based on their evident sincerity and motivation.
“Their empathetic qualities, together with Deer Park’s thoughtful redesign and support from the wider Camelot Care network, promise to deliver the best possible care outcomes for our residents.”
Camelot Care has been providing residential dementia care since 2002 and we run four other homes in the South West: Butterfly Lodge in Plymouth; Camelot House and Lodge in Wellington; Avalon Nursing Home in Bridgwater and Chestnut Lodge in Yeovil.
We are recognised within the care sector for the quality of our dementia care, with the homes in Wellington and Bridgwater this month named as leading providers of end-of-life care at the annual Gold Standards Framework awards, and Butterfly Lodge in Plymouth being the outright winner of three ‘excellence’ awards at Plymouth City Council’s ‘Celebrating Excellence in Care Awards 2025’.
Deer Park Nursing Home’s redesign has drawn on extensively researched NHS design principles for achieving dementia-friendly environments, with a focus on calming and uplifting colour schemes and layouts designed to minimise stress for people living with dementia.
The home will provide accommodation for 50 residents in individual bedrooms each with its own wet room. It occupies generous landscaped grounds in a prominent position on Rydon Road, with plenty of accessible parking.
