Birds of prey bring joy and excitement to Camelot House and Lodge
Residents at Camelot House and Lodge enjoyed a rare encounter with some of nature’s most majestic creatures during a visit by Devon-based Owls R Us. They got to meet a selection of different owl breeds as part of the home’s regular pet therapy programme.
Zillah Oaks, Manager at Camelot House and Lodge, said: “We have lots of bird lovers here at the home, so it was lovely to see our residents so engaged with the visit. Everyone wanted to learn about the owls and enjoyed stroking and holding them.
“It was actually a resident’s family member who was behind the visit. They’re a big fan of animals and birds and very kindly donated half the cost of the visit. We’re incredibly grateful to them for helping make this visit possible.
“This kind of therapy is hugely beneficial for our residents – engaging with an animal can help ease agitation, improve mood and spark memory and here at Camelot House and Lodge, we’re no stranger to visits from creatures great and small. From rabbits and guineapigs to donkeys, sheep and lambs – we’ve seen it all and this type of activity always brings so much joy and excitement.
“Our most regular visitor is Rex, a German Shepherd therapy dog, who often visits our residents alongside his owner John. John so kindly gives his time to us for free, and the impact this has is visible for all to see. Rex will always be found cuddling up to many of our residents who love having him around.”
